The Tiger Den Belleplain camping trip scheduled for May 16th has been postponed due to fire risk. A new date tbd.
Pack 79 is participating in community clean up this weekend, Saturday, Oct. 25th. Two starting times are being offered, 9:30 and 11:30. Scouts do not have to wear this uniform shirts. If they want to wear their hat they can. All supplies will be available at Trinity, our meeting location and starting point. Jason Wertzberger will check in the 9:30 participants and I will be there at 11:30 for check in and clean up. You are welcome to attend whichever time works best for your family.
Would a family like to bring prepared hot chocolate for the 11:30 time for Tigers to enjoy after clean up? I will bake muffins. We could have a warm up drink and treat at Trinity when we finish our clean up time.
Please email me so I know if you are able to participate and if so, at which time.
Also, please save the date for Friday, November 7th (Kids off for Teacher Convention).
Cameron Wildlife Park-Cape May Park North
Requirement 5G, Take a Hike with your den, p. 76 and Elective 31, Learn About Animals, p. 124.
The Cape May County Mounted Patrol is meeting us in the park! I need a head count BY Sunday letting them know how many can attend. Please let me know how many adults are attending with your scout as they will be setting up chairs for the presentation.
Also, I have to let him know our time on Monday. We'll do majority vote, morning 10:30 or afternoon 1:30.
Please let me know by Sunday if you can attend and cast your vote for 10:30 or 1:30.
Projected forecast for Saturday, October 18th is a high of 65 and low of 42. Dig out your hats and mittens for when the sun goes down!
A few reminders for camping.....you may camp on Friday night if you wish. The pack has to pay for two nights of camping due to how state parks are handling reservations, however, there will be no organized pack activities for Friday night or Saturday morning. This would be time to spend with your family (and any other families that may be there). All food would be on your own for Friday night dinner, Saturday morning breakfast, and Saturday afternoon lunch. Pack activities will start at approximately 1 o'clock on Saturday.
There will be three families per site. When we get a bit closer and sites are finalized, I will let you know which site(s) the Tiger Cubs have been assigned. Our sites will be all next to each other and because we have the youngest group, we will be in closest proximity to the bathrooms.
The Tiger Den is going to have three sites. We need commitment from three families to bring firewood so that each Tiger site can have a campfire Saturday evening and Sunday morning. The pack will provide graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows to make smores Saturday night.
Each scout needs to bring a pumpkin. We will have a time set aside Saturday late afternoon for pumpkin carving. Bring a pumpkin according to how much you want to scoop! I will bring carving tools and battery operated lights for pumpkins. They look so nice all lit up around the campsites!
Our den will have a game time....one suggestion was glo stick bowling (using water bottles and glo sticks). If anyone has another suggestion, please let me know.
Dinner Saturday night will be hamburgers and hotdogs. Breakfast Sunday morning is going to be pancakes and sausage (I believe, if it changes I'll let you know).
If you are a coffee drinker, could you please bring your favorite mug for your cup of joe? We try to keep our environmental impact down at family camping. Belleplain is a carry in/carry out park, you may want to throw a trash bag in when you are packing and I will be sure to have plenty on hand too.
The pack is looking for someone to pull the Pack Trailer out to Belleplain. Would any of our Tiger Families be able to pull a trailer?
Last, I'm going to throw in a tip we have learned from Family Camping and I'm asking each family to "reply all" and give a tip or question, this way we can all participate to help each other be prepared for a fun camping trip. So, here goes.....
Pack an extra pair of socks for your scout.....If they are wearing cotton socks they may be damp (sweaty) from running around....change their socks before they get in their sleeping bag so that they go to bed with dry feet instead of damp feet which equals cold feet.
Just a reminder we have our Tiger Den Meeting tonight at Trinity at 6:30.
We need to finish up our family scrapbooks. I went through what we completed last month and went ahead and glued the sentence strips down for whichever page(s) your scout is missing. When you get to the meeting tonight I will have your scouts' pages paper clipped and ready to go, if you could help your scout complete the pages they are missing.
On the larger table this month, don't forget the scout sign in sheet for the monthly meeting. Also, there will be a sign up sheet for Wednesday night's Go See It, Requirement 2G, p. 50 in your book (Marmora Fire Prevention Week Open House). We are meeting at 5:25 in the area of the American Flag. Also, on the table, if you missed it last month, if you give permission for pictures of your scout to be included on the pack website (www.pack79marmora.com), I need your signature.
Tonight we are working on the Tiger Cub Immediate Recognition Emblem, p. 16 in your book. We will review the Cub Scout Motto, Cub Scout Sign, and learn the Cub Scout salute. Continue to practice the Motto, Sign, and Salute for the rest of the month. We will have the boys show me all three at our November Den Meeting so they can be recognized and given their Recognition Emblem at the November Pack Meeting. We are also working on Requirement 2D, p. 48 in your book, practicing the Pledge of Allegiance. We will be signing up to lead our pack in the Pledge at an upcoming pack meeting.
Homework this month: Requirement 2F, p. 46, Look at a Map of your community with your Adult Partner. Please take home a piece of construction paper and together with your scout make a map that we can include in their scrapbook. Please include your home on the map drawing as well as three places your scout likes to go.
There is a Committee Meeting Tuesday night at Trinity. If you can attend, please let me know either via email or tonight. We will be talking about the family camping trip at Belleplain and need helpers....Anyone love to cook/grill? We need someone to step up for this position.
See everyone tonight,
Homework due at October 6th den meeting: Requirement 1F: Family Chore, page 38 and Elective 24: Help in the Kitchen, page 114.
